red road series

This series of engravings and etching prints, collectively record the gradual dismantling and demolition of the largest Red Road tower block in Glasgow.
My aim for this group of works was to create ‘something’ from this destruction and for that ‘something’ to be coveted objects that are borne out of this piece of commonly derided architecture. As the building is stripped of its fabric, I have likened the process of bringing down this tower to that of a forester cutting down a tree, with each image titled after a different stage in the timber felling process. By choosing a metal medium and utilizing industrial engraving processes, these images are now permanent and indelible memories of a once huge structure, which now no longer exists.
